Code for Sustainable Homes

The Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) is a holistic assessment of the sustainability of a dwelling, and is the most well used method of assessing the sustainability of new homes within the UK.

The CfSH assessment considers items in the following categories; energy, water, materials, surface water, waste, polution, health and wellbeing, management and ecology.

Since May 2008 all new homes require a Code for Sustainable Homes(CfSH) certificate to be included in the Home Information Pack (HIP).

CHBS is fully licensed to produce Code for Sustainable Homes assessments. With considerable experience in energy modelling, building services and sustainable design, coupled with a core belief and understanding of sustainability issues; CHBS can offer a full CfSH package to ensure that sustainable design is incorporated into homes at the earliest stages of their development.

At the planning stage of a development we can offer a pre-assessment of the building design and specification. We have found that this service is highly valuable, helping to ensure that a home is on track to achieve the desired code level and can be used to demonstrate compliance with Local Planning Department requirements.

An interim assessment is then produced and submitted at the design stage of development, and this is followed by the full assessment upon building completion.

CHBS can also provide more detailed advice and evidence for specific Code for Sustainable Homes credits with our Sustainability Support Services.
